When art gives life to nature

Dimitri Nayak, a 35-year-old stone cutter, transformed a tree into a 4.40-metre statue in the Château Nourt Park.

Sculpting A centenary Oak dead, but still well rooted, and turning it into graceful bacchante, is an idea that may seem incongruous. It has yet to take shape in Civrac, in the park of Château Nourt, where is the oak which has experienced this unexpected resurrection. His new life, which could last longer than the previous one, he owes it to the meeting arranged for him by his owner, winemaker, with Dimitri Nayak, a stone cutter of 34 years who had a priori nothing to do with his wooden trunk.
